Obama’s Executive Ordered Study On Gun Violence Blows Up In His Face

execorderIf you recall, back on January 16, 2013, standing with little children, Barack Hussein Obama tried to pull a fast one on the American people and issued 23 executive orders pertaining to gun control. Among those was number 14: Issue a Presidential Memorandum directing the Centers for Disease Control to research the causes and prevention of gun violence. Well friends, that study did happen and it destroyed Obama’s position on guns and gun violence.

Well like all things in government, the people tasked with the study simply directed the study to the Institute of Medicine and National Research Council. However, many people have not heard about the report. Could it be that much of the information in the report didn’t quite “jive” with Obama and the anti-gun crowd?

Actually, that’s exactly what it did. In fact, not only did they not hold any water for Obama’s claims regarding gun violence, it poured it on him, pretty much backing every Second Amendment lover’s argument that has been made.

The report, titled Priorities for Research to Reduce the Threat of Firearm-related Violence, which identifies the particular topics of gun violence to be researched over the next few years, made the point that the majority of deaths that take place annually by the use of a firearm are not related to crime, but to suicide.

“Between the years 2000-2010 firearm-related suicides significantly outnumbered homicides for all age groups, annually accounting for 61 percent of the more than 335,600 people who died from firearms related violence in the United States,” reads the study.

That’s obviously not a good thing. However, it indicates that many Americans suffer from both a spiritual and mental health issue. With that said, let’s not then run to government to deal with mental health issues. I’ve warned before and I’ll warn you now: That would be a very bad move.

Here’s the great news in the report though. It points out that virtually every study which “assessed the effect of actual defensive uses of guns” discovered the same thing. Those using their guns for self-defense “consistently lower injury rates among gun-using crime victims compared with victims who used other self-protective strategies.”

Oh and remember how we’ve been told by the Obama administration and the socialist gun grabbers that guns aren’t used that often in self-defense? Well, the report shows that isn’t true either.

“Defensive uses of guns by crime victims is a common occurrence, although the exact number remains disputed (Cook and Ludwig, 1996; Kleck, 2001a),” the study reads. “Almost all national survey estimates indicate that defensive gun uses by victims are at least as common as offensive uses by criminals, with estimates of annual uses ranging from about 500,000 to more than 3 million per year (Kleck, 2001a), in the context of about 300,000 violent crimes involving firearms in 2008 (BJS, 2010).”

Yeah, not as uncommon as the propagandists would have us believe.

In all fairness, the report does point out that “some scholars point to radically lower estimate of only 108,000 annual defensive uses based on the National Crime Victimization Survey (Cook et al., 1997).”

While the report does maintain that this will always be a controversy in the field, the study does state that “the estimate of 3 million defensive uses per year is based on an extrapolation from a small number of responses taken from more than 19 national surveys,” while the “estimate of 108,000 is difficult to interpret because respondents were not asked specifically about defensive gun use.”

“A different issue is whether defensive uses of guns, however numerous or rare they may be, are effective in preventing injury to the gun-wielding crime victim,” reads the report.

The report does have a downside. It indicates that we have the most firearm related deaths of any western nation. However, the good news is that the study claims that is rapidly declining.

“Overall crime rates have declined in the past decade, and violent crimes, including homicides specifically, have declined in the past 5 years.” However, “Between 2005 and 2010, the percentage of firearm-related violent victimizations remained generally stable.”

Additionally, the report goes on to inform about other declines. “Firearm-related death rates for youth ages 15 to 19 declined from 1994 to 2009,” the report continues, adding that accidental shootings were declining as well.

The report also states that “Unintentional firearm-related deaths have steadily declined during the past century. The number of unintentional deaths due to firearm-related incidents accounted for less than 1 percent of all unintentional fatalities in 2010.”

While everyone recognizes that there will always be crime and violence and yes, even gun violence, the fact of the matter is that gun control is not the answer, except to make sure you control your own gun and hit your target. For sure there will be more data added as the study continues, but already what they do have from the past indicates something that is completely opposite from what this administration has presented and there is no doubt that any information that comes out of the study will be thoroughly scrutinized.

The report also referenced video game violence to see how it might contribute to gun violence, but said that more research would need to be done and no research to the present has been conclusive.

Anyone wondering why Barack Obama, Joe Biden and Dianne Feinstein aren’t running to the state run media to air out this little report? It’s because they have egg on their face.

One last question that is on my mind is, how much did will this study end up costing the American taxpayer?

I have a question, and I don’t really know where to look to find the answer, so I am hoping that a well informed individual might be able to help. I would like to know what the statistics were for accidental deaths of injuries do to firearms during the time when firearms safety was taught in school? Someone should really do research on that.

  2. John DeMayo says:

Obama’s border un-control and immigration un-enforcement kill more people annually in America then suicide and gun homicides combined. And it did not take another waste of taxpayer money to figure that out. It is on the FBI website. Which anyone—who is not golfing or campaigning—can access for free.

  3. Patriot says:

The so called admin should be sent to gitmo for crimes against the constitution and the bill off rights

I wonder if Obama thought the people engaging in this study would accommodate his well-known agenda by giving him the numbers he wanted. Otherwise, it was a world-class act of airheadedness to announce the study, or even order it secretly. Anyone paying attention knows the real numbers have never, ever, reflected his wishes.

  6. Jerry Davidson says:

I suppose if the big media outfits reported the incidents where the good guy shoots the bad guy and saves his life and that of his family there would be more “truth” in their reporting. Of course when most of the news media in our country are owned by a Saudi prince (muslim) there will be no such reporting because it doesn’t fit their and Obummer’s agenda to disarm America!

  7. OnlineCounsellingJamaica says:

Well I don’t know about you all, but for me the answer is to get rid of all guns in everyday society, that still leaves a myriad implements with which to do harm/defend self or others…why make death so easy?

And YOU are a complete BRAINLESS A$$WIPE MORON

    • deo89 says:

Turn that around and your question really is why make self- defense so easy. Do you really believe that organized crime would not thrive in providing guns to criminals? You would also have to outlaw the materials and means of producing firearms? We already have drugs that are illegal everywhere, yet that has not eliminated drugs. Banning firearms would only impact those who already follow the law… You know, by not murdering others.

Because liberals make living so hard…..

    • calmo says:

Did you read this article? Have you been paying attention before? Guns are what it takes to counter crime. Guns are what it takes to protect good people against people who have no respect for the rule of law or for other human beings. You don’t get rid of guns any more than you get rid of knives. Wishing to is utterly brainless.

I’m not sure about Jamaica, but here in the USA we have a lovely thing called “The Bill of Rights” in which, the 2nd Amendment gives citizens the right to “keep and bear arms” for some rather amazing reasons. You should probably research why we were given those rights back in 1791.

Regarding “death” : well, you don’t need a gun to die or to kill someone else. People have been doing that for years & will continue to regardless of reason. If you want to commit suicide, there are countless ways to end your own life: a strong rope with a tight not tied to a tall tree on one end & one’s neck on the other, jumping from a tall building, overdosing, running out in front of a fast moving large vehicle, & the list goes on and on ad nauseum.

When discussing accidental deaths caused by guns, guns aren’t even in the top 5 causes here in the USA. That would be automobile accidents, poisonings, falls, choking, & fires. Guns(600) don’t even make the grade above drownings(2500) when it comes to accidental deaths. Personally, I’d rather own a gun than a swimming pool. There’s much less maintenance, they never go out of style, & apparently guns are safer.

Here is the link to our Bill of Rights. All of them are wonderful, but I suggest the 2nd Amendment for this discussion.

      Thank you for your opinion.

      • Lee, just a slight correction to your eloquent soliloquy, if I may. The Bill of Right does not GIVE us ANYTHING. The rights we have, including that of bearing arms, is INHERENT (we were born with it). The Bill of Rights just prevents the government from taking those rights away. Otherwise, very well said.

    • Mr. Crowley says:

Why make crime so easy ? Criminals don’t follow the rules. Your ignorance is amusing.

    • ri8terofwrongs says:

I understand your desire for this utopian society where everyone walks around with flowers in their hair and love in their hearts, but you should know as well as I that that is not reality. I want you to think for a minute outside of your obvious bubble of delusion; think of those men, women, children that live in rural America and need their weapons for myriad reasons. From shooting the coyote that is about to eat their prized lamb, or ending the misery of a horse that’s tangled in barbed-wire, blooded and suffering beyond help with the nearest veterinarian some 2 hours away. How about the controlled hunts of deer, without them deer would over-populate and suffer and starve, a slow miserable death. I could name a thousand more reasons that you’ve never thought of I am sure but time prohibits.

You want to take away those people’s right to own a gun because YOU and those like you in your little urban habits think it’s the right thing to do? In your attempt at seeking utopia you actually spread misery and suffering; such is the liberal idealogy and its havoc wrecking agenda. Please go get informed by learning the facts of what a gunless society would do to America before you raise your hand to speak about it again. And please, please go read the real history books before they are all destroyed and see what happened to countries who relinquished their weapons to their government.

    • tom says:

come after my guns and your a dead man

    • LMFAO. Are you effing serious????!!!! Hey, y’all, we got a genuine sheepson here. He’s spouting the exact same liberal tripe as the administration in DC. What a laugh.

    • George says:

Ah yes, and riddle me this $hit-for-brains, when all firearms are outlawed, who do you suppose will have firearms. No $hit, you say outlaws. Well that’s comforting isn’t it. Idiots like yourself need to suck on the business end of a loaded firearm while fumbling with the trigger.

  8. George says:

A completely worthless POS! When are we going to do what needs to be done and physically throw his malodorous a$$ out of the White House?

  9. Joseph Parsons says:

They also need to honestly address the TRUTH that higher crime rates and murder rates are IN THE AREAS THAT HAVE THE STRICTEST GUN CONTROL LAWS! Places like “CHICAGO” …DC…NEW YORK…hint, hint, hint!!!!! Where people know they are less likely to be confronted with a law abiding, gun carrying, self-defense trained citizen…they feel more confident in commiting crime. In areas where Conceal Handgun Carry is allowed…you have less violent crime because the criminal knows someone might put him or her 6 feet under.
