WASHINGTON, March 11, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — FreedomWorks is mobilizing its membership of over 4 million members nationwide to drive phone calls and emails to their Senate offices to demand that Congressional leadership allow a vote on defunding ObamaCare, following the announcements made last Wednesday by reform Senators Ted Cruz (R-TX) andMike Lee (R-UT) that they will reject any government spending bill that funds implementation of the unpopular health care law.
Vice President for Public Policy Dean Clancy commented, “Principles constitutional conservative Senators Ted Cruz and Mike Lee have vowed to block ObamaCare implementation funding in the Senate. FreedomWorks is going all out to help them prevail. At a time of slow economic recovery and increasing federal debt, America simply cannot afford this law. That’s one reason why more than half the states have declared they won’t set up ObamaCare exchanges. At a minimum, implementation should cease until the economy recovers and the Senate does its job to pass a budget that shows how on earth we’re going to pay for this massive new entitlement.”
Clancy added, “For the past four years, FreedomWorks activists have worked tirelessly to fully replace the ‘Unaffordable Care Act’ with patient-centered reforms. On Wednesday, the House passed a huge spending bill that, despite Republican promises and FreedomWorks’ vigorous objections, keeps funding the implementation of the government’s health care takeover. Now it’s up to the Senate to step in and keep Uncle Sam out of the doctor’s office.”
“We call it the ‘Unaffordable Care Act,’ because projections show it’s unaffordable for businesses, unaffordable for states, unaffordable employees and employers, unaffordable for doctors and hospitals, and – worst of all – unaffordable for patients. It’s also unaffordable for taxpayers, as we complete our fourth year of trillion-dollar deficits, and unaffordable for the unemployed, as we enter our sixth year of economic malaise. ObamaCare is driving up premiums, forcing millions of full-time workers into part-time positions, and causing millions of employers to consider dropping health benefits altogether. It will blow a trillion-dollar hole in the deficit. It doesn’t take a genius to see that, right now, this law is simply unaffordable.”
