Ted Cruz“The Internet has been a haven for entrepreneurial growth. We should protect and cherish the freedom of the Internet, and Congress should not pass a massive new Internet sales tax. The Democratic leadership should not be doing the bidding of major corporate lobbyists, at the expense of mom-and-pop retailers across America. Forcing small Internet retailers to comply with the taxing authority of over 9,600 jurisdictions nationwide would kill jobs and stifle economic growth. There’s no reason for the Senate to pass this flawed bill – skipping the committee process and rushing the bill forward to stifle debate.” -Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas)

Today the office of Senator Ted Cruz released a video entitled “No Net Tax” that is meant to raise awareness for the reasons that legislators should vote against the “Marketplace Fairness Act.” The measure is expected to be voted on this week and if passed would require internet businesses to comply with over 9,600 jurisdictions nationwide.

On April 22, 2013 Cruz also signed a bi-partisan letter opposing S.743 (Marketplace Fairness Act). Below is a copy of that letter which was addressed to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and signed by U.S. Senators Kelly Ayotte (R-NH),  Ron Wyden (D-OR), Jon Tester (D-MT), Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Marco Rubio (R-FL), Mike Lee (R-UT) and Ted Cruz (R-TX).
