According to The Moscow Times, Putin, supreme commander of Russia’s armed forces, ordered a surprise inspection of all forces in the Central Military District this week.
“In accordance with [Putin’s] order to the forces of the [Central] Military District, parts of the air forces of other military districts, the airborne troops and the military air transport forces have been on full combat readiness from 9:30 a.m. Moscow time,” said Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, TASS reported.
This particular district (one of four regional commands) is also set to participate in Center-2015, a large military exercise later this month.
Recently, as President Obama was visiting Alaska, five Chinese warships showed up just 12 nautical miles off the Alaskan coast. What was little reported on is the fact that at that same time, a Russian spy ship was also spotted near a U.S. submarine base near Kings Bay, Georgia, home to the U.S. Navy’s East Coast ballistic missile submarine fleet.
Also at the same time, the Navy suddenly announced a month-long, last-minute military drill without explanation in East Coast waters, and the Department of Defense and the FAA have warned it could make aircraft anticollision systems unreliable at any time throughout September.
