The “hacktivist” known as Guccifer 2.0 released a document dump on Hillary Clinton yesterday.
From Guccifer 2.0:
This’s time to keep my word and here’re the docs I promised you.
It’s not a report in one file, it’s a big folder of docs devoted to Hillary Clinton that I found on the DNC server.
The DNC collected all info about the attacks on Hillary Clinton and prepared the ways of her defense, memos, etc., including the most sensitive issues like email hacks.
Guccifer claims to have hacked the Democratic National Committee’s servers, and has leaked documents that show that party officials have researched Hillary Clinton’s prior travel on private jets, the Clinton Foundation’s investments, and the Democratic presidential candidate’s speech contracts. Clinton’s tax returns and personal financial disclosure reports are also among the leaked documents.
Tuesday morning, Guccifer began distributing more than 250 files – totaling thousands of pages of records – that appear to have been prepared by DNC research staff.
From The Daily Beast:
A 113-page Word document, appropriately titled “Hillary Clinton Master Doc,” draws on news articles and attacks levied by her opponents in order to create a kind of point/counterpoint guidebook, showing where the DNC thinks Clinton is likely to get hit by her critics and how she or her surrogates might fight back.
The document begins with foreign policy and specifically Benghazi, arguably the favorite talking point of conservatives who continue to question Clinton’s role in an attack that took the lives of four Americans, including U.S. Ambassador to Libya, Christopher Stevens. The document cites criticism of her own account of the embassy attack, as well as the Obama administration’s mixed “messaging” in the aftermath.
The document moves on to criticism of Clinton’s policies on Syria, Russia, and other countries.
DNC concerns about how much money Clinton has earned, travel cost discrepancies (one trip from New York to Washington, D.C., aboard a Bank of America jet cost just $45.75, an amount that a researcher called “weirdly low”), her perceived “lack of authenticity,” and other controversies and scandals surrounding the candidate are included in the documents.
Experts have said they believe Guccifer 2.0 works for the Russian government, but in an interview with Motherboard, the hacker denied that accusation:
“I don’t like Russians and their foreign policy. I hate being attributed to Russia,” he said, adding that he was from Romania, just like the first Guccifer.
