(The Olive) Does anyone else remember the ginormous U.S. bailout of automaker General Motors? The U.S. forked over somewhere North of 11 BILLION dollars to help right the sinking ship called GM.

I think many an American will like what President Trump had to say about this (indirectly):

“If GM doesn’t want to keep their jobs in the United States, they should pay back the $11.2 billion bailout that was funded by the American taxpayer.”

While it has been reported that GM is only closing plants in the U.S., according to The Guardian, GM is also closing one plant in Canada along with plants and facilities in Ohio, Michigan, and Maryland. Closing these plants will of course have a large adverse affect on the U.S. economy.

This writer thinks GM is putting the screws to America while keeping their other plants overseas open and running for a reason. Is this reason because GM is looking for payback over Trump’s tariffs? Does GM like the idea of making Trump look bad? I have no proof of course, but I would not be surprised.

Trump does however have a valid point here. GM wants to shutter much of its U.S. operations while keeping plants open in other countries. What about the BILLIONS of dollars that U.S. taxpayers paid to keep GM solvent? What about all of the American jobs that will be lost?

It seems to this writer that regardless of GM’s reasoning here – GM seems to have no problem screwing American taxpayers and giving American workers the shaft in favor of non-Americans.

Shame on you GM.
